design assignment colours

Now it’s time to create your own light installation. At your disposal are:

  • coloured glass paints
  • brush
  • a plexiglass cuboid
  • pieces of plexiglass
  • an LED lamp (it is possible to get more then one LED, in case you need them

First, you have to choose which type of colour mixing you want to prominently feature in your design.

Secondly, you have to make sketches of a design that creates a certain atmosphere in a dark room. What motives do you want to create? How can they be created=

Then, you have to think about the placement of your installation in the dark room.

Here, you can see examples for the placement of the plexiglass cube, in case you decide to use ist for your installation. Whether it is in the middle or in a corner can change the effect of the room bathed in light. It is best to sketch the arrangements you can imagine and think about how the light would fall. Its course also depends on the position of the light source. If the light source is inside the cube and directed upwards, the picture will be different than if it is directed to one side or placed outside of the cube. (See illustration with the slider below).

possible arrangements of the cube

The same procedure applies in case you choose to work with multiple light sources or colour filters using the plexiglass pieces.

Your portfolio must include

After the design, your light installation will be exhibited. For this, you will need to create exhibition material when you are finished. More about that here:
