With his installation „Prismverse“, the artist Chris Cheung transported visitors into the interior of a shining diamond.
Task 1: What effects does looking at these installation have for you? Find three adjectives each and discuss them in the group.
Task 2: Both works of art did not actually use prisms to refract light, they only served as models. Make guesses as to which materials were used instead. For „Prismverse“ you can watch the making of here to check your suggestions.
Task 3: Both artists released videos of their installations. What are the advantages of recording the installations on a video? Collect key points. Then search online for the keyword „video installation“ and write a short definition.
Your design assignemt at this station will be to use a light source, some prisms, some wire and a darkened room to make an exciting video that effectively shows the effect of light refraction and the light spectrum. More about this on the next page.
